DisabLed drivers take the wheeL
The ability to drive for anyone with a mobility impairment living in South Africa, is an essential part of their independence. Our aim is to help people with reduced mobility and physical disability regain their independence.
Learners License
Before you may take driving lessons on a public road, you need to pass the K53 Learner’s Licence Test. Our qualified instructor will help prepare you for the test.
Learn the rules of the road, traffic signs and controls of the vehicle.
Drivers License
To obtain a South African drivers license you must pass the driving test at a registered test center. This is a practical driving test designed to test a person’s ability to drive a motor vehicle.
Our qualified instructor will teach you the K53 method of driving and prepare you for your test.
About us
Who we are
Magazi’s Learners and Driving for the Disabled is a registered non-profit organisation that specialises in working with disabled individuals who are learning to drive. We are based on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal.
We offer both K53 Learner’s Test Preparation and Driver’s Training for mobility impairment individuals.
Founder & Qualified Instructor
Viran Maniram is the founder and registered driving instructor of Magazi.
A decade after a car accident left him paralysed, Viran got his first job. As a wheelchair user, using public transport to move around was not easy, so he set about getting his driver’s license.
With a lack of suitable driving schools on the South Coast he saved up for his own car, modified it, and took the test.
“After my many struggles, I wanted to make it better for others and the idea for the driving school for the disabled was born.”
Our Beneficiaries
Helping the disabled
If you are a disabled individual who is learning how to drive or re-learning how to drive after an accident, Magazi is here to help.
While those between the ages of 18 and 30 are the organisation’s target market to empower the youth, disabled persons of all ages may apply. Those who qualify must be disabled and unemployed, or earning below R3,500 per month.
We charge a small registration fee to help with administrative and operational costs. After registration, all lessons are given free of charge to qualifying students.
